Hallmarking...stamp stamp stamp

I have just had my Christmas orders hallmarked ! I am a huge fan of hallmarking, I think it's amazing that we can find out where things have come from, and who they've been made by and in what year and where. I used to collect old teaspoons to make into spoon rings and I would make the hallmarks a big feature.

So I took a trip to the "Garden" earlier thats Hatton Garden for all those who aren't in the know to get my latest orders hallmarked.

Jessica McCormack

Reading through my latest issue of "Harpers Bazaar" I saw a little section about Jessica McCormack, I saw a piece titled the "Anger necklace" an arrow and beautiful brown feathers. As a lover of mixed media pieces I looked her up. Now I love her work ! She calls her work "mini sculptures" which is exactly the term I use to describe my work. There is so much more to a piece of jewellery, so much depth and work and feeling, that people don't always appreciate. When you buy a piece of jewellery you're not just buying a precious metal, or expensive stones. It's a work of art that been thought out. I mean art is not priced by the cost of the piece of paper its printed on ! Anyway, I am loving her pieces, her blog is cool too, as a person who is more of a thinker than a talker I can identify with her blog which is full of pictures, Why do we need words when if a picture paints a thousand words?

London Fashion week !

Don't forget London fashion week is not just about textiles, Oh no, we mustn't forget those jewellery designers. I was told the ones to watch out for are... of course Alex Munroe who kate moss, Amy Whinehouse and Sienna Miller favour, Elenor Ford and Amy Anderson. This is the bumblebee necklace that sienna has.

Elenor Ford is inspired by decorative arts of world cultures, celebrating the skill and time tested beauty of craft. Her jewellery shows her keen interest in traditional craft techniques with a contemporary twist to create stunning and desirable jewellery that is innovative and modern but has a timeless appeal: http://www.eleanorford.com/

My favourite has to be Amy Anderson though with her quirky designs she started out as a fine artist and decided to have a market stall at portabello market, to fund her art practice, this then developed, as her stall and work became more popular.

Jessica Joslin

Although I love jewellery I see alot of jewellery as mini, wearable, sculptures so when I came across these beauties by Jessica Joslin I just had to blog her sculptures. Jessica started by collecting dead flies on her windowsill and looking at them under a microscope, gradually her collection grew and grew and progressed to collecting skulls, dead birds and other creatures. She puts her sculptures together with lots of shiny pieces of brass and found objects, to create something truely special. Take a look :http://www.jessicajoslin.com/jessica/index.html

Thoughts and dreams

So now I have the new wax eagles from the mould I've been playing around a little, trying to figure out how they would look best. Would they be best cut down and put on a ring or are they better being more prominant? If they were necklaces where would they hang? Shall I set stones in them? Would they look best in silver, in gold ...or silver with gold beaks? The possiblities are endless. I've been thinking about adding to them. I've made feathers before which I could put with them. I would try and explain but I guess it's better to show you on my next blog. I keep having these great ideas just before I sleep, just as I'm drifting off and I'm at a half dreaming stage. I have to quickly wake myself up and write them down before they're gone and forgotten.
